Whether you write for the Christian market or for the secular, there is one more thing you can do to enhance your marketing. There’s a fifth P that is not included in the standard Four P’s business model—-Prayer. You can pray about every aspect of your marketing plan. (If you are reading this and have not read the four earlier posts, it would be a good idea to check them out first. There’s a link list at the end of this post).
Pray about it.
- Pray that you choose the Product that the world needs most.
- Pray for your Place component (networking), that God will connect you with the right people at the right time.
- Pray about pricing. Should you write for free? Or do you need to have income from your work?
- Pray about promotion. There are so many decisions to make at this point in your planning. Ask for guidance in choosing your methods.
Remember it’s about the customer.
Marketing is not about what you want. It’s what the customers, the readers (and publishers) want. Apply the Golden Rule. Seek what your customers want, and find a way to give it to them.
The Golden Rule: Matthew 7:12: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets (NIV).”
Discouragement will come.
Give your discouragement to God in prayer. The Bible encourages us to pray about everything.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-7 (TNIV).
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express” Romans 8:26 (NIV).
Readers, I pray today that you can use the information I’ve provided in this series of marketing posts to jump-start your marketing—-and your enthusiasm for marketing your work.
