Book Review: The Mighty Pen

51TuqIlKQXLFull title is: The Mighty Pen: Christian Encouragement from writers to writers, Chalfont House, 2016.

When a bunch of Christian writers get together, you never know what will come of it. This book grew out of a two-day class at Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference (BRMCWC) where the attendees shared the joys and frustrations of writing for the Lord. The introduction states that the writers want to extend the benefit they got from their class to other writers.

The book is a compilation of “devotional thoughts” for writers with 31 different topics, each by a different writer. Each contribution begins with a Bible verse, followed by devotional thoughts (longer than most devotionals). A concluding prayer and writing prompts finish off each selection. Topics include prayer, self-doubt, spiritual warfare, persistence, rejection, and perspective on writing for publication.

I read several entries in one sitting, but I can see how this would be useful as a one-reading-per-day devotional. I don’t recall how I ran across this book, so if any of my readers suggested it to me, please email me from the contact page and I’ll give you credit in this post and on social media.

Check it out on Amazon. When this post was first published, the book was available in Kindle versionat $2. 99 and paperback at $9.99.  As of October 3, 2016, the links for both Kindle and print version are not working. Please search the title on Amazon to find out if it’s still available.

And the best part….proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the BRMCWC scholarship fund. Notice it also says “Volume 1” on the cover. Is this just positive thinking, or is a sequel in the works?

Readers, do you have this book? Do you know of other devotional books for writers? Share in the comments and tell us about it. If you get this post by email, please click on the title of the post to go to my site. Scroll down to Leave a Reply and comment there.

I’ve not read this book, but the best devotional book for writers that I’ve seen is Write His Answer by Marlene Bagnull. Timeless devos with large doses of humor and encouragement. A woman in our critique group wrote a small devo book for writers I also enjoyed. It’s called Writers’ Devotions to Go. I’ve even quoted from her book in workshops.

Thanks, Tracy. I reviewed Write His Answer back in 2009. She’s got a new version out, so maybe I should review it again. I don’t know if the new version is revised. I’ll check it out.

BTW, your link does not go to Marlene’s book on Amazon. Here’s the link to new version which has choice of Kindle or print formats:
