Thanksgiving Praise

Thanksgiving weekend. Time for a shopping frenzy? Family visiting you? Whatever you’re doing, don’t forget to give thanks. Since I’m a musician, songs get stuck in my head frequently. This month, it’s “He Has Made Me Glad.” Quite appropriate for Thanksgiving, don’t you think?

The video below includes a great performance with lyrics, a patchwork from three different Psalms.

  • Psalm 92:4 (NIV): “For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done.”
  • Psalm 100:4 (NIV): “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;give thanks to him and praise his name.
  • Psalm 119:24 (KJV): “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

One more Bible verse for you:

“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High.” Psalm 92:1 (KJV)

“Over the River and through the Woods”—not a Christian song, but it’s the only one I know of that references the Thanksgiving holiday.

That’s one of my favorites, too, Cecelia. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

I guess it’s the first Thanksgiving song people think of, although Thanksgiving is not mentioned in the early verses. I didn’t know it had so many verses: There are many, many songs that mention giving thanks in the Christian song library, though.
